NiSi 150mm Natural Night Filter 150x150mm Light Pollution
$239.00
- Dedicated light pollution filter for night photography — the NiSi 150x150mm Natural Night Filter is engineered to block artificial light frequencies while preserving natural star color and sky contrast.
- Fits the NiSi 150mm square filter system — the 150x150mm square format slots directly into compatible 150mm filter holders, making it easy to integrate into an existing landscape or wide-angle setup.
- NANO coating for reduced ghosting and flare — multi-layer nano coating helps minimize reflections and ghosting, supporting cleaner results when shooting bright light sources against dark night skies.
- Practical choice for astro and night photography — helps reduce the orange and yellow glow of sodium and mercury vapor streetlights, making it easier to capture clearer nightscapes in and around urban areas.
- Protective coating for easier maintenance — the outer coating layer helps repel dust and smudging, making the filter easier to clean and maintain during extended night shoots in the field.
- Optical glass construction for reliable performance — built with optical glass to help maintain image sharpness and clarity without introducing unwanted softness or distortion.
- Designed for landscape and astrophotography workflows — pairs well with wide-angle lenses in the 150mm system format, supporting shooters who regularly work in low-light outdoor environments.
- Square format for flexible positioning — the 150x150mm size allows the filter to be used across multiple lens diameters within compatible 150mm holder systems without swapping to a different filter format.

Description
Overview
The NiSi 150x150mm Natural Night Filter is a specialist light pollution filter designed for landscape photographers and astrophotographers who shoot with large-format lens setups requiring the 150mm square filter system. If you’re working with ultra-wide lenses that demand oversized square filters, this 150x150mm format gives you the coverage and optical quality needed to capture the night sky without compromise.
Light pollution is one of the most persistent challenges in night photography. Artificial sources such as mercury vapor lamps, sodium streetlights, and low-CRI urban lighting cast unwanted color contamination across the sky, washing out stars and reducing contrast in long exposures. The NiSi Natural Night Filter is built specifically to address this by selectively blocking the wavelengths most associated with artificial light pollution, allowing your camera to record the natural tonal range of the night sky more accurately.
Experience & Benefits
The most immediate benefit of the Natural Night Filter is improved contrast and color fidelity in your night sky images. By targeting and reducing the specific wavelengths produced by common urban and suburban light sources, the filter helps reveal detail in the sky that would otherwise be obscured by ambient glow. Stars appear more defined, the Milky Way renders with greater clarity, and the overall color balance of the scene becomes easier to manage in post-processing.
Optical quality is central to the performance of any filter used for long exposure night photography, where even minor distortions or sharpness losses become visible at high magnification. The Natural Night Filter is made from precision-annealed optical glass, which is finely ground and polished to maintain sharpness across the full image circle. This matters particularly when pairing the filter with high-resolution full-frame camera systems, where lens resolving power is high and any degradation introduced by the filter will show up clearly.
NiSi’s multi-layer NANO coating is applied to the filter surface to minimize reflections, ghosting, and flare. In night photography conditions—where bright point light sources such as streetlights and distant town glow are often present in the frame—surface reflections can introduce artifacts that are difficult to remove in editing. The NANO coating helps reduce these internal reflections, supporting cleaner, more consistent results even when shooting toward lit horizons or in mixed lighting environments.
The coating also provides a degree of protection against water droplets, dust, and oil from handling. In the field at night, conditions can change quickly, and being able to wipe the filter surface cleanly without risking damage helps maintain a practical, uninterrupted workflow during long sessions. This is a genuine practical advantage when you are working with a 150mm square system in outdoor environments.
For photographers who already work within the NiSi 150mm square filter system, the Natural Night Filter slots into the same holder and workflow as other filters in the range. This means it can be used alongside graduated ND filters or stacked thoughtfully into a multi-filter setup, giving you control over both exposure and light pollution within the same system. The ability to build a coherent kit around a single holder format is one of the practical strengths of using a system-based approach to landscape photography filters.
Practical Details
The 150x150mm format is specifically suited to photographers using ultra-wide and wide-angle lenses with large front elements that cannot be accommodated by standard 100mm square filter systems. If your primary lens for night photography is a wide prime or zoom requiring the NiSi 150mm holder, this filter is the correct format to ensure full coverage and avoid vignetting at wide apertures and focal lengths.
Because night photography typically involves long exposures at wide apertures, the filter needs to sit squarely and securely in the holder without introducing any shift or misalignment during the exposure. The 150x150mm square format fits cleanly into compatible NiSi 150mm holders, keeping the filter stable and correctly positioned throughout the shot. For photographers managing multiple filter positions simultaneously, this predictability is part of what makes a system-based approach practical over individual filter solutions.
When building a kit for dedicated night photography filters use, the Natural Night Filter works best when paired with a solid tripod setup, a shutter release cable or timer, and a well-dialed manual focus routine. The filter itself does not affect focus or introduce significant light loss that would require additional exposure compensation beyond standard night shooting settings, making it a relatively straightforward addition to an existing workflow.
For photographers exploring both astrophotography and general long exposure work, the 150x150mm Natural Night Filter is a specialized addition to a broader NiSi 150mm filter system. It is not a replacement for ND filters or CPL filters but rather a complementary tool for conditions where light pollution is the primary image quality challenge. Understanding when and where to use it—typically in areas with moderate to heavy artificial light contamination—helps you get consistent value from it across different shooting locations.

You are alright! I don’t care what that other guy said (j/k). Its just a saying I use in person with a wide smiley face. The filter did arrive safely no smash-ups. There was a slight delay in shipping as I was tracking it. Seemed it got lost temporarily in Bloomington CA. Just enough delay that it didn’t arrive in Palm Springs in the morning that it’d be on the Truck to get delivered that day. FEDEX’s warehouse is nearly a skip and a jump from me. But, it seems to always go to the END of a route and then work backwards. (I just want to CHOKE them for that, well, its just an Arrrghh! moment. Well as they say FECES OCCURS)
