True Color Pro Nano CPL

A circular polarizer that cuts reflections without warming the scene.

  • True Color polarizing film
  • Ultra-slim two-tone aluminum frame
  • Cine seal blackened edge
  • Pro Nano coating, both sides

Not sure of your thread? It is printed on the front of the lens or inside the lens cap, next to the diameter symbol.

Why True Color

A polarizer that leaves the color alone.

Most polarizers warm the scene. This one is built not to.

No warm cast to correct

Many polarizers push skies and skin tones warm or yellow, and you spend the edit pulling it back out. NiSi True Color polarizing film keeps the scene neutral, so what you shot is what you saw.

Ultra-slim, two-tone

A silver back ring and a black front ring, both machined from high-quality aluminum. The slim profile keeps vignetting down on wide lenses, and a lens cap still threads straight onto the front.

Turn it to cut the glare

Rotate the filter to pull non-metallic reflections off water, glass, wet rock and foliage. Skies deepen, clouds gain contrast, haze drops back, and what is under the surface comes through.

Pro Nano on both sides

NiSi Pro Nano multi-layer coating on both surfaces cuts internal reflections and makes the glass water and oil repellent. Spray, rain and fingerprints wipe off instead of smearing.

Cine seal on the edge

The edge of the polarizing element is blackened and sealed. That adds durability, holds the filter steady through temperature swings, and keeps condensation out of the assembly.

Knurled for cold fingers

The frame edge is knurled the whole way around, so mounting and removing the filter is quick even when your hands are wet, cold or gloved.

40.5mm to 127mm

Sixteen thread sizes, from compact primes to large-diameter wide-angle and telephoto glass. Buy the size your lens takes, or size up and use a step-up ring.

Filter on and off

See what the polarizer does.

Two frames, each one photograph split down the middle. Same exposure on both sides. The only difference is the filter.

Reflections on glass

The lower half is the bare lens: the facade is a sheet of white glare. The upper half is the same building through the True Color CPL, with the glass and the frames behind it visible again.

A glass tower, split across the frame: the lower half without a filter is blown out with reflection, the upper half with the NiSi True Color CPL shows the facade

Through the surface

On the left the shallows are a milky sheet of sky. On the right the polarizer takes that reflection off and the stones on the lake bed come through, with the blues left neutral.

The same scene, with and without

Four pairs shot back to back on the same lens. These were photographed with the brass frame build of the True Color CPL, which uses the same optic as the filters on this page.

Waterfall and rock pool

The polarizer takes the sky off the surface of the pool, and the rust-colored stones on the bottom come through.

Farmland and sky

No water here at all. This is the other half of what a polarizer does: deeper sky, richer greens, no color shift.

Questions

Before you buy.

Which size do I need?

The size of your lens filter thread. It is printed on the front of the lens or inside the lens cap, next to the diameter symbol. The True Color CPL comes in 40.5, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, 82, 86, 95, 105 and 127mm.

What does a CPL actually do?

It removes reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces: water, glass, foliage, painted surfaces and wet rock. Rotate the filter to set how much. Along the way skies deepen, clouds gain contrast, atmospheric haze drops and you can see into shallow water.

What does True Color mean on a polarizer?

Most circular polarizers add a warm or yellow cast that shifts skies and skin tones. NiSi True Color polarizing film is made to keep color neutral and accurate, so images need less correction afterwards.

Does it cost me light?

Yes. Every circular polarizer absorbs some light, so you lose a little shutter speed or gain a little ISO. Fit the filter and rotate it to where you want it before you meter, because the reading changes as it turns.

Will it work under my lens hood?

Not on every lens. Because of the frame design this filter is not compatible with all lens hoods, so check the fit if you shoot with the hood on.

What is Cine seal?

The edge of the polarizing element is blackened and sealed rather than left raw. It adds durability, reduces the effect of temperature swings on the assembly, and keeps condensation out.

How should I clean it?

Blow the dust off first, then wipe with a clean microfiber cloth. If you need fluid, use an alcohol-free lens cleaning fluid: never put anything containing alcohol on the coating. The NiSi Nano Optical Cleaning Kit has both.

Aluminum frame or brass frame?

The same True Color polarizing film is behind both. The aluminum version is the two-tone frame shown here, in sixteen sizes to 127mm. The brass frame version runs 40.5mm to 105mm, threads more smoothly onto the lens and adds a removable adjustment knob.
