  • This graph is showing how much light a series of camera filters let pass through them, which is important because it affects the exposure of your photographs. The term "External Spectral Transmittance on Optical Axis" refers to the measurement of light transmission through the filters at different colors of light, which are represented by wavelengths in nanometers (nm) – from 400 nm (near-ultraviolet) to 900 nm (near-infrared).

The horizontal axis (from left to right) shows the wavelength of light in nanometers. The vertical axis (going from top to bottom) shows the optical attenuation in T-Stops, which is a way to measure the reduction of light. Each line on the graph corresponds to a different filter, with labels like "FSND0.3" or "FSND2.4". These numbers represent the density of the filters; higher numbers mean the filter is denser and allows less light to pass through.

The lines are very flat, which means these filters have a consistent effect on light across different colors. This is good because it ensures the colors in your footage is not distorted by the filter. The lower a line is on the graph, the less light it lets through, so you'd need to adjust your camera settings accordingly to get the correct exposure when using these filters.

The new NiSi Full-Spectrum Neutral Density Filter range (FS ND) transmits light evenly through the spectrum of ultraviolet, visible light and near-infrared wavelengths. It produces perfect neutral colors and retains fine granular detail without compromising other aspects of optical performance.

NiSi's FS ND filter is made with environmentally sustainable optical H-K9L crown glass. The construction process involves precision annealing, carefully timed heating and cooling protocols, and prolonged holding times, which all work together to eliminate internal stress within the glass and prevent deformation. Compared to ordinary glass, H-K9L glass offers superior benefits such as high neutral light transmittance, excellent uniformity of physical and chemical properties, and precise optical constants.

The newly developed double-sided nano "Ti" (titanium) attenuation film and antireflection coating minimizes glare and reflection. It also greatly reduces or eliminates the reflection of light back and forth between the lens and adjacent filters.

The filter edge is coated with a special matting imported from Japan. This coating for optical lenses prevents ghosting and various forms of glare.

What is the NiSi Full Spectrum (FS) ND Filter range?

The NiSi Full Spectrum Neutral Density Filter range is a series of high-quality filters designed to evenly transmit light across ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared wavelengths. These filters ensure perfect neutral colors and maintain fine details without compromising optical performance.

What makes the NiSi FS ND Filter unique in terms of material?

The NiSi FS ND Filter is crafted from H-K9L crown glass, an environmentally sustainable optical glass known for its high neutrality in light transmittance and consistent physical and chemical properties. The glass undergoes a precision annealing process to eliminate internal stress and prevent deformation, ensuring superior optical quality.

How does the NiSi FS ND Filter handle glare and reflections?

This filter features a double-sided nano "Ti" (titanium) attenuation film and antireflection coating. These advanced coatings minimize glare and reflection, reducing or eliminating light bouncing between the lens and other filters. This leads to clearer and more accurate images.

What is the benefit of the edge coating on the NiSi FS ND Filter?

The edges of the NiSi FS ND Filter are coated with a special matting from Japan, designed for optical lenses. This coating helps prevent ghosting and various forms of glare, enhancing the overall image quality.

Is the NiSi FS ND Filter suitable for professional cinematography?

Absolutely. The NiSi FS ND Filter is designed to meet the rigorous demands of professional cinematography. Its ability to maintain color neutrality and control reflections makes it an excellent choice for filmmakers seeking high-quality imagery.

What sizes are available in the NiSi FS ND Filter range?

Currently, the NiSi FS ND Filter is available in the 4×5.65" size, which is a standard size compatible with many professional cinematography setups and matte boxes. Coming soon to the larger 6.6x6.6" size.

How does the NiSi FS ND Filter impact the overall image quality?

The NiSi FS ND Filter ensures high-quality image capture by maintaining color neutrality, reducing glare and reflections, and preserving fine detail and texture in the image. This leads to a more natural and clear result.

How should I care for and maintain my NiSi FS ND Filter?

To maintain the quality of your NiSi FS ND Filter, it is recommended to clean it regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals and store the filter in a protective case when not in use to prevent scratches and damage.
